Overview:
I decided to include an ethics section for a few reasons. First, technology
can be extremely dangerous. The nuclear fuel of energy and space travel
is an obvious example of powerful technologies. As you read forward,
I would like to remind you that you could get into a car accident any time you are in
a vehicle. Having said this, it should be much easier to accept radical
technologies that can make our lives more comfortable and more enjoyable.
Throughout this website, I argue that the age we are currently in is
the Space and Information Age. Information is another powerful technology.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that many of us are uncomfortable with personal
information being available to too many agencies and corporations. Many
of us may also be concerned with big government gaining access to our
everyday finances, wealth, and information. I say anecdotal evidence,
because I have not looked at any polls, but have heard these concerns
often enough to say that many share this concern. Additionally, we have
heard many cases of identity theft and fraud. Folks, the only circumstance
in which I could justify any breach in a private and secure system,
is a planned and transparent operation by a corporation or individual
to check its own vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities then need randomness
in corrective action to protect the company and the individuals. The
other instance that I would justify such measures is in the protection
of certain national infrastructure. And perhaps, you could hack into
the NASA system for the schematics for building the Endeavor Space Shuttle
which we will call the Enterprise Endeavor, then send them to me to
begin development of a few dozen of these spacecraft, after all, we
do pay taxes that fund NASA. Having said this half jokingly, you hack
into any system illegally, so it is better to convince NASA via phone
that it's schematics should be handed over as general public domain
knowledge. That's it - the rest is a slippery slope! Folks, I developed
a philosophy early on in life. This philosophy is quite simple and logical.
It starts with the realization that being a crook takes hard work, planning,
and risk. So if you are going to work hard and take risks, then shouldn't
you do it legitimately? And if your work and earnings are legitimate,
then you can feel good about it and not risk incarceration, stealing
from people, feeling bad, disrupting livelihood, etc. This is a motto
that I have developed and is simply stated as follows - Being a crook
is hard work, so why not just work hard?

Science:I picked up a word a long time ago from a Star Trek book which is sentient. My memory is that this word describes a conscious, feeling, and aware being. So sentients deserve respect and dignity in scientific, medical, and sociological research. Any research should respect human dignity. If possible, such research should be voluntary. Obviously, blind studies need to be formed with human dignity at the forefront since the subjects would be unaware of the study. Science should not be arrogant by making social status decisions. In the past, too many dictators have defined "undesirables" in societies. Having "undesirables" could be justification for study that would otherwise not be conducted or widely accepted. Any research proposals should be those that the researchers would be willing to undergo. That's right - the old golden rule which says "do unto others as you would have done to you". I have heard before that a society can be defined by how it treats the weak among us. How do you treat your kids? How do you treat your patients? How do you treat your pets? Do you value or disdain life? So as you read through this website, remember that all topics are geared toward an enhanced human experience. I discuss some radical new theories. I demystify other classical theory. I leave no stone unturned. I discuss physics, chemistry, engineering, calculus, computing, robotics, nuclear technology, information technology, and more. A good comprehension and application of these concepts and technologies can and do enhance the human experience. |
Summary:In the movie irobot, the droids were built with immutable laws. We are more complex and consider these laws to be wrapped into a conscience which at the core may be close to the immutable laws. I also discuss the 7th nuclear force sense which is a composite of the six senses and includes relativity. As an example, one person sees far. Another is super sensing. Another has narrow vision. The next may carry another unique set of skills, etc. So ethics beyond the core is learned and formed and is partly group formed which is why we build institutions and groups. |
